I found this little gem while searching for a stopover retreat to finish off our Kruger National Park holiday before returning to Cape Town. It was simply an amazing experience from the first engagement to make our booking till we said our goodbyes. Crimson Bush Lodge is located within the Dinokeng Reserve just over 30 minutes north of Pretoria on the N1 Highway and 1 hour from OR Tambo International Airport. We received a very warm welcome on the Friday afternoon & was pleasantly surprised to be so close to the wild life and in such luxury! The tour of the rooms, living space, kitchen as well as the outside sparking pool & lapa area left me speechless as the owner, Johan, is super passionate about the place he & his wife, Janet, created.

The entire cottage was immaculate & tastefully decorated with air conditioners to keep you cool during the very hot summer season. The rooms & bathrooms are seriously spacious with each room equipped with a flat screen TV, kettle, tea & coffee. Walking past the bathroom I spotted the outside spa bath – the perfect spot to sip on an ice cold glass of champagne whilst watching the Big 5 from a distance. We were lucky enough to hear the lions roaring in the evenings and seeing the animals coming to the watering hole to drench their thirst. The entire kitchen setup & cottage decor gave me new inspiration for my own home with only the best cutlery, crockery & even two fridges, washing machine, tumble dryer & dishwasher! The open plan kitchen area allows you to prepare food whilst still being apart of the conversation including a view of the flat screen TV with full DSTV… just in case you get tired of the live 3D Animal channel just outside your doorstep.

Nothing was too much trouble for the owners & they arranged for us to go on a game drive with Ephraim & Vera – two incredibly knowledgeable people, which made it one of the most informative game drives I’ve ever been on. We were spoilt for choice with their range of snacks during the drive & they really thought of everything possible to ensure their clients’ safety as well as comfort.

Johan & Janet even came to greet us before we left & it was heart warming to see how much they care about their clients. We actually felt like family & cannot wait to return to this fantastic place. I won’t be surprised if Crimson Bush Lodge receives their 5 star rating in the very near future.

Thank you again to Johan & Janet – wishing you all the best & see you soon.
